World’s Fastest Hybrid-Turbo G80 M3

An 8.801-Second Quarter Mile at 256km/h

Some achievements take time to fully appreciate.

In September 2023, NV Performance purchased a brand-new BMW G80 M3 to serve as our workshop development vehicle.

From the beginning, the objective was clear: we wanted to build one of the fastest examples of its kind.

We believe that performance products should be tested and proven on our own vehicles before being offered to our clients. The G80 M3 gave our team a platform on which to develop, test and refine the products and packages intended for the S58 engine.

That development journey produced an extraordinary result.

Our G80 M3 completed the quarter mile in 8.801 seconds at 256km/h, becoming the fastest hybrid-turbo G80 M3 in the world at the time of the run.

The result also established the car as the fastest BMW in South Africa.

From Workshop Development to a World Record

This achievement was not produced by one modification or a single day at the track.

It was the result of continuous testing, data analysis, calibration and mechanical development by everyone involved in the project.

Every component had to operate as part of one complete performance package. The engine, turbochargers, transmission, fuelling system, electronics and calibration all had to work together reliably under extreme conditions.

The 8.801-second pass demonstrated what could be achieved when proven components were combined with careful preparation and experienced development.

Records Across Three BMW Platforms

The G80 M3’s achievement formed part of a much larger NV Performance development programme.

At the time, we held South African Dragy-certified records across three major BMW engine platforms:

• S58
• B58
• S55

These results reflected our commitment to developing complete performance solutions rather than focusing on a single vehicle or engine.

Each platform presents different engineering challenges. Learning how to manage those differences has allowed our team to develop packages that deliver strong performance across a wide range of modern BMW models.

Powered by Strong Partnerships

Our progress within the South African BMW performance industry would not have been possible without the contribution of our partners.

Together with The 357 and Strada Performance, we brought three specialist brands under one roof.

Each team contributes experience within its respective area, creating a complete development environment supported by decades of combined motorsport and performance experience.

This collaboration allowed us to approach the G80 M3 as a complete system—from the mechanical components and supporting hardware to tuning, testing and track preparation.

The NV Performance S1000 Package

Our record-setting G80 M3 was equipped with the NV Performance S1000 package.

The package was developed for S58-powered vehicles requiring a serious step up in performance while maintaining a carefully planned combination of hardware, software and supporting upgrades.

Installing the S1000 package on the world’s fastest hybrid-turbo G80 M3 provided the ultimate demonstration of its performance potential.

The result was not based on theory or claimed output. It was proven through measurable performance on the quarter mile.

Engine Development with 5150 Autosport

NV Performance partnered with 5150 Autosport in the United States to provide South African clients with access to premium BMW engine components.

5150 Autosport components have been used in some of the world’s fastest BMW builds. The company’s experience in developing engine hardware for high-power applications makes it an important part of our performance offering.

Through this relationship, we can provide carefully specified engine components and complete build solutions suited to demanding BMW applications.

Transmission Solutions from Pure Drivetrain Solutions

Producing significant engine power is only one part of a successful performance build.

The transmission must also be capable of handling the additional torque and delivering that power consistently.

NV Performance partnered with Pure Drivetrain Solutions to bring its transmission expertise and components to South Africa.

Our technicians received the necessary training to build supported Pure transmissions locally in our workshop. This allows us to provide specialised transmission solutions without sending each unit to the United States for assembly.

Local transmission building helps reduce turnaround times while allowing our team to remain closely involved throughout the process.

ECU Calibration by GTP Tuned

The engine control unit is the brain behind every modern performance build.

For ECU calibration, NV Performance partnered with GTP Tuned in the United States.

This relationship allows us to offer specialised GTP ECU calibrations to the South African market. Accurate calibration ensures that the engine, turbochargers, fuelling system and supporting components operate together correctly.

On a high-performance build, software is every bit as important as the physical components fitted to the vehicle.

S58 Performance Packages

NV Performance offers five performance packages for the BMW S58 platform:

• S700
• S800
• S800R
• S1000
• S1200R

Each package is designed for a different level of performance and vehicle development.

The correct package depends on the client’s intended use, power target, fuel choice, existing modifications and long-term plans for the vehicle.

Our team assesses these requirements before recommending the appropriate combination of hardware, fuelling, transmission and calibration upgrades.

The Journey Is Not Over

Running an 8.801-second quarter mile was an important milestone, but it was never intended to be the final destination for our G80 M3.

We have even bigger plans for the platform and will continue testing, refining and exploring its capabilities.

Every pass provides new data. Every record creates a new target.
