NV1000 Supra Runs a 9.4-Second Quarter Mile
The B58 platform is one that we have researched, developed and tested extensively at NV Performance. Our in-house Toyota GR Supra is fitted with our flagship NV1000 package—part of a performance range that begins with the NV500 and progresses all the way to the NV1000.
Building a 1,000 HP Daily Driver
When we set out to build our first 1,000 hp B58, our objective was clear: create a powerful yet dependable Supra that could be driven every day and unleashed at the racetrack when the opportunity arose.
The result is a genuine daily-driven performance car. It travels to and from work reliably, yet remains capable of delivering low-nine-second quarter-mile passes at the track.
Three Days at Mkuze Raceway
At the beginning of May 2023, we travelled to Mkuze Raceway in KwaZulu-Natal to put our NV1000 Supra package to the test.
Hosted by Kas Moodley, one of the pioneers of organised racing events in KZN, the three-day event gave petrolheads an opportunity to test their vehicles, enjoy competitive racing and experience a weekend filled with high-performance machinery, burnt rubber and high-octane fuel.
Friday began with a test-and-tune session on an unprepared surface. This allowed us to assess the Supra’s behaviour and prepare the vehicle for the competitive racing ahead.
A 9.8-Second Pass and First Place
On Saturday morning, we were still learning how to control and apply the immense power produced by the car. Running at approximately 50% of its potential, the Supra completed the quarter mile in an impressive 9.8 seconds.
That performance was enough to secure first place in the 6C class.
Turning Up the Power
By Sunday morning, we had gained greater confidence in the car and its setup. For the final day of racing, we increased the output to approximately 70% of its potential.
The Supra responded with a remarkable 9.4-second quarter-mile pass at 238 km/h, earning us the title of the fastest six-cylinder rear-wheel-drive car of the day.
The Next Target: Eight Seconds
The weekend was an enormous success for our team and an important step forward in the continued development of the NV1000 Supra package.
We achieved a 9.4-second pass without using the car’s full potential, which has made us even more determined to reach our next goal: an eight-second quarter-mile pass with a B58-powered car in South Africa.
This is only the beginning. Keep an eye out for the NV1000 Supra at future racing events as we continue refining the platform and pushing towards the eight-second barrier.
