Background
For the 2021+ BMW G8X M2/M3/M4 models, the ZF 8HP automatic gearbox is robust and fast, designed to handle the high-power output of the S58 engine. However, upgrading the engine with additional performance parts and tune can overwhelm the original cooling system especially during track driving. The risks when overheating the transmission is slower gear changes and the possibility of damaging the transmission. To address this temperature challenge, do88 has developed an upgraded transmission cooler to help keeping the temperatures at a correct level and having the transmission operating correctly.
Our solution
The do88 performance transmission cooler for the 2021+ BMW G8X models significantly improves the cooling efficiency. Our engineers redesigned the transmission cooler’s core, increasing its volume by 71% and the cooling surface area by 50% while maintaining similar oil pressures. We upgraded the tubes with harmonica tubes with internal channels, ensuring optimal cooling efficiency. It also increases the system’s cooling capacity with a 42 % (8,5 dl vs 6 dl) rise in oil volume. The do88 cooler uses a dual-pass design which means the fluid stays in the cooler for longer time, ensuring more heat is dissipated.
